Students will be more than willing to help you move your items into your home. A good way to get help is to ask the admissions office to send an email to the ambassador’s, asking for moving assistance. A quick email will get you 5-10 helping hands at your new residence on moving day!

Cable

If you are member of the Student Advocate Association you there is free cable installation from CableOne. That can save like $60.

Internet Providers

You have two options for high speed, DSL from AT&T and cable internet from Cable One (http://www.cableone.net/). DSL is cheaper for the internet, however, you must get a “land” telephone line. There are many differences between the two, however, you will be pleased with either.
You definitely want to have an internet connection. The only reason you probably wouldn’t want one is if you didn’t have a computer (they are a requirement, you know).

Telephone Service

There are some great options here. If you want a land line (families), then you can go with the traditional “Ma Bell” telephone system via AT&T. A newer (and much cheaper) method is VOIP. Your telephone will not rely on telephone lines; it will run over your internet connection. These services give you so much more than a regular telephone can offer, and are a fraction of the cost. I use VOIP and just LOVE It! My wife loves not having to pay for long distance charges (she calls her family often and for long periods of time). For about $20 a month, you can get everything that a “regular” telephone would give you, if they charged $75 a month.
Obviously, you would want to use cable internet if you went the VOIP route, since having a phone line would be a waste.
Here are some VOIPs that service Kirksville:
Packet 8 (http://www.packet8.net/)
VOIP.com (http://www.voip.com/)
ECR (http://www.ecr.com/)
There is a unique company called Grand Central (http://www.grandcentral.com/) that provides a phone number free of charge. If somebody calls this number, it will ring up on your cell phone, home phone, or any other phone that you want it to. And, if that isn’t cool enough, it will allow you to “screen” your calls (something you can’t do on a cell phone)!
Others coming...I just need to update.
