First and foremost, there are huge amounts of data to sift through in this course. This is the class that teaches you to find the important info. I only used powerpoints...never touched the PDFs. I don’t think they ever asked a question that wasn’t in their powerpoint (or lab result picture).

Dr. Sargentini
Don’t skip his lectures, or, at least, listen to them. He lets you know the important points of the class. There is just so much detail, it is nice to only focus on what he talks about in class. Maybe, even, listen to them again.

Viral
Know the common stuff first, such as which viruses cause the common cold, etc...I would definately make a mnemonic to remember these, since you will be asked again in infectious. There are always questions about treatments...an hour with phunny pharm will prove to be very useful. Write down which drugs you need to know, then, go to phunny pharm (in the library) to help memorize them. The most common complaint (IMHO) was that we just didn’t learn the treatments well, but were always tested on them.
Know your DNA and RNA viruses. Make a mnemonic for it.
Use these study guides...they were awesome! Use them as you go through your powerpoints. The ones that are good for the viral stuff are the DNA Virus, Slow Virus, Antivirals, and RNA Virus. These guides will hone your studying in on the forest of viral micro.
The OneNote 2007 Version of these files can be found here. If anybody wants to download this, let me know and I will get you a login for it.

BUG VIDEO, BUG VIDEO, BUG VIDEO, BUG VIDEO! Now, understand that the bug video won’t get you to pass this exam, but, it is an excellent start. I would watch it once before you do a single thing for this section, then, watch it 2 days before your exam. There is a map that goes with it...I will post both the maps and the videos on my site. Here is the Gram Negative Video Outside of that, there are “study guide objectives” at the end of Dr. Sargentini’s packets...make certain that you have those at your side as you go through the powerpoints. Fill it out and then use it as your study guide. There isn’t a single question on his exam that isn’t on that study guide.
A common complaint after the exam was the number of questions that were related to lab tests...not just the test you should run, but, what does it look like. I made a guide that has all the positive and negative lab results in picture format. Click here for a link to that file. You will be suprised about how many questions you will get right just knowing the micro components of the bug (gram +, cat +, coag-, etc...)
Of course, there will be treatment questions, but not nearly as many as from Dr. Stewart. So, the same method of phunny pharm applies here.
Bug Videos
Here are the links for the bug videos.

*Gram Negative Video *Gram Negative Map
You MUST use the map with the bug video. It helps it all make sense. Take notes on it while you are studying the material. It will just stick.
Parasitology
I will post the parasite study guides that I used...quite frankly, I don’t think you should review anything else if you want an 85%. They were awesome. EDIT–the files have been posted in the micro study guides repository.
